Laatu is a small shop for objects made with intention, and for the stories of the people who make them.
Everything we stock has to pass two tests. Did the maker put heart and soul into it? And is the result any good? Good intentions don’t make a good product.
We’re proud to be EVERGOODS’ first UK retailer. We’ve carried one of their backpacks every day since 2019, and nearly eight years on it barely shows its age. This summer we flew to Bozeman, Montana, to ask in person. They said yes, to a shop that didn’t exist yet.
Laatu is a shop for objects made with intention, and for the stories of the people who make them. We’ve opened with four makers and one book.
Everything we stock has to pass two tests. The first is whether the maker put heart and soul into it and believed in what they were making. The second is whether the result is any good, because belief alone isn't enough and plenty of well-meant products turn out badly. It holds for a candle, an umbrella or a hot water bottle as much as for a bag you’ll carry for years.
We keep the range small, and add to it one maker at a time.

EVERGOODS design packs and bags in Bozeman, Montana. As of today, Laatu is their first UK retailer, and we don’t take that lightly.
We knew EVERGOODS long before Laatu existed. A backpack bought at Huckberry’s pop-up on Bleecker Street in New York in January 2019 has been in daily use ever since, so when we began writing to makers this summer, the letter to EVERGOODS came from a customer, not a shop.
In August we met the team in Bozeman, first at their office and then at the bakery next door, and came home with a yes from a maker willing to back a shop that hadn’t opened yet.
What keeps us reaching for that bag is the fabric EVERGOODS chose. Nearly eight years on, it looks much as it did the day we bought it.
